I understand your angst. Beautiful creatures, gorgeous thieves. I went to pick my cantelope last year only to find they’d eaten the insides the previous night leaving the shell still on the vine to fool me into thinking I still had a crop!!

Ha-ha! Smart. Can't believe they can eat a cantaloupe. Wait. Yes I can. ;)

Yes, they are! Even in my various battles with them here I still love them all.

I feel your pain. Several years ago we surrendered also and high fenced (6 feet) a large part of our property in the front. Now I just deal with the coons, many birds, possum and squirrels fighting over my gardens and fruit trees.

Oh. I forgot to mention that we still put corn out for them daily on the back property 😊

That's very sweet of you! I know they appreciate it, especially in winter.

Though I don't remember signing up for this email, when I started reading it I was hooked. I will admit one time 40 years ago I did hurt these beautiful creatures but never again. I have learned to admire them when I see one or two. We have even blocked traffic to allow a momma and her two fawns finish crossing the highway we were driving on

I hope for you that your momma remembers you and you have another set of fawns to feed and watch grow up and learn to love again.

Glad you're here, and thanks for letting me know you enjoyed the writing. Yes, they are beautiful creatures indeed. Nothing cuter than momma leading her fawns. ;)

You have a tender heart Ryan, Nature is awesome. This was a great read before getting some sleep tonight. Thank you

Glad you enjoyed it, Jean. I've become that grumpy man who swears he hates the dog but secretly feeds it beneath the table. ;)

My Mom use to say they need it more then we do. We have Grocery stores they do not. Apples will grow back as well as the roses. We need to share with the Wildlife. They use to eat my Mom's plants in her rock garden and the Holly bushes next to the back door but it was winter and they needed to eat. Ryan thanks for sharing your bounty with them. You made me smile at all the memories I have

Your mom was right, as mothers so often are. Thanks for the note, Kathie!
